Trauma and Yoga

"Thanks to a friend, a Senior Psychologist in London, I got this very interested panorama on the aproach of PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder).
With yoga I have experienced the importance of bodily connection and stimuli for mental resistance, which when circulated create inner peace while the mind creates a kind of filter (detachment). I was not aware of the effect of EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) on trauma mentioned in the article, but I think I can see it in what I know about the potential of drhisti (a certain type of focusing) used in ancient Indian yoga practice and classical dance: 'Drhisti is related to the fifth limb of yoga pratyahara, which is about stopping the senses, and the sixth or dharana, which is about concentration. Especially in Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga, each asana is associated with a particular gaze or dhristi like the thumb, eyebrow, tip of nose, tips of hands, side, up, navel, and tips of feet.
I suspect that the mechanical act of concentration, through the eye,  while the senses are off, helps to create a veil between the mind that builds the possibility of connecting power and energy to the body.  This veil helps prevent the mind from repeating the loop that arises from our memories and traumas, which probably means we overcome the debilitating status of the mind. "
